Our team has been busy with a few charitable initiatives we’re excited to tell you about.  Our main focus has been to make a positive difference for children and youth in our community.

Last Christmas we chose to support John Norquay Elementary School for the second year in a row through the Adopt A School program.  This program is organized by The Vancouver Sun Children’s Fund and every penny raised goes directly to the children at the school.   It started in 2011 when a school teacher at Admiral Seymour elementary, after a difficult day at work, wrote an impassioned open letter questioning whether anyone cared about her inner city students coming to school with empty tummies and holes in their shoes.

The Vancouver Sun published her letter and when the teacher got to the school, people had already dropped off thousands of dollars in cash.  Since then, more than 100 schools have benefited from this program so that impoverished children are able to have nutritious meals, warm clothing and afford to go on field trips they wouldn’t normally be able to go on.

John Norquay Elementary is just one of the many schools that needed extra funds to help stock their SOS storage room.  It helps support families who find themselves in financial hardship to provide support of food security for children.  They are able to pick up canned goods, pasta, rice, toilet paper and grocery store gift cards.  About 40 kids at this school are living below the poverty line.

Frank Danielson recently joined Social Venture Partners which is an international network of engaged philanthropists who invest time, money and professional expertise in local non-profits.  The Vancouver chapter of Social Venture Partners focuses on strengthening the organizational capacity of non-profits serving children in-need and youth at-risk.  Their vision is to ensure more children and youth reach their full potential.

Since 2001, SVP Vancouver has contributed over $4 million dollars and thousands of volunteer hours to 50 non-profits in our local community.  Local success stories include The KidSafe Project, Athletics for Kids, St. James Music Academy and many others.

We find that many people want to help in their communities but don’t know how to contribute to a cause they believe in while making the greatest impact. Social Venture Partners is able to help connect those who want to give with people, organizations and resources that will amplify those gifts.  Partners at SVP are able to pool and stretch their dollars in a strategic way while becoming more engaged.
